New Cue Question

I've recently gotten back into shooting pool after a 15-20 year absence and I would like to purchase a new cue.

I have a friend I shoot with who has a schmelke that he really likes and has been dependable for him for years.....and they have a line in my price range.
$100.00 - $160.00.

Here's my question. I would like to here recommendations on manufacturers and what to look for within that price range.

I would like a nice cue that will last me quite awhile. I believe it's more the person shooting the shot before the cue, but I would also like to have a decent stick.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have read in some of the Threads that Meucci and McDermott have had shaft warpage problems, so i would stay away from them. Check the For sale section on this Forum. I have seen some nice Cues there for sale.:)

My buddy had a Schelkie that was pretty nice. It's weight was 21oz and had a skinny butt on it. But played alright.

I don't know the price ranges though.

New Cue

I assume you are in the Midwest!?

I would not be afraid of getting a new McDermott....they're in your backyard and now have a lifetime warranty on their cues (including warpage). My feeling is the 3/8-10 pin they use will give you an excellent playing cue for not alot of money -- until you figure out what you wanna get that 3rd mortgage for :D

Cuetec
McDermot
all of these are excellent cues, that when pointed correctly will pocket balls cleanly. they all make cues in the $140 and up range.

I was in the same boat and I have to say that is it totally worth it to make a drive to a place that has a wide selection of cues and then hit with a couple.

I show with about 9 different cues in the $50-$200 range and they all felt very different even among same brand and type.... I was lucky and found an awesome used joss that feels on another level from all the other cues for about the same price....

So definatly hit around with a selection, what you pick out might suprise you!

A schmelke is like firewood. If you want a cheap cue that hits good you can get a good sneaky pete players cue or a dufferin for less than $100.

Zim's Rack had a few sneaky's in your price range. I don't think you can go wrong there. I also know another local cuemaker here that can make you a nice sneaky for around 175 with heavily figured woods in the full spliced points.

Thanks for the Thumbs up

I am glad you like the ones you recieved.
That is true. Anyone interested in a nice quality cue in the $80 to $120 price range Please shoot me a PM with your email or phone# and I will be happy to discuss and send pictures of the cues I offer. :)

american

I would buy any American made cue in that price range because most of these have decent warranties, and they are better made cues than the overseas cues. Other than that I am partial to McDermott (never had a warpage problem.)

I bought a Lucasi SP cue to play in bar tournaments so I didn't have to subject my regular playing cue to less than ideal conditions. For a SP it's really a nice looking cue. It plays very well, has a fine hit, with good feel. I bought mine from a friend who deals them for $80, but even full list price is only about $130. It would be hard to find a better playing cue for less than $250-300.

I'm in the same boat right now. I've looked at some Lucasi's, McDermott's & Players in that price range. So far I'm leaning toward a McDermott. Most store will give 20% off MAP on them. Try to hit them before you pick.
