New Cue vs. New Shaft

Casual bar player for years, finally got my own table in Dec '09 and been playing regularly ever since. Finally feel like I am making some good improvement.

I bought a viking G31 6 months ago and really like the way it hits and feels in my hand, but am wondering if a cue upgrade will help me improve faster.

So the question is: What is a better bang for the buck; a performance shaft for the old cue or full new cue?

I understand that bad player will play poorly with great cue and vice versa, but I'm practicing a lot and anticipate getting better!

if you play good and feel good with what you got run with it. dont change what works. before you get a hole new shaft or cue try swaping tips.
it took me a year to find out that sniper tips are were its at for me.
