Just received my Predator LE3 with 314-3 Shaft today. I haven't had a chance to hit any balls with it yet but here are some initial impressions. I will follow up with an extensive review later tonight.

1) The lines the lines the lines. The cue looks amazing. Very clean looking points. The contrast with the ebony and curly maple looks great.

2) The balance. I have only been playing for about a year and a half, however I'm pretty sure I have only missed 100 or so days in that time period. In other words, I have held enough cues to know what a well balanced cue feels like. Hot damn does this cue feel just right in my hand.

3) Shaft lamination. Laminated shafts (besides Mezz & some Meuccis) have taken the industry by storm and offer radial consistency. One issue I have with laminated shafts is how they look. Often times the various laminations will be different colors (First Gen OB shafts) and just won't look right. I am impressed with how the 314-3 shaft looks.

Disclaimer. I know that the Z2 and several other conical taper LD shafts have the least amount of deflection. I also don't give a shit. Often times shaft technology turns into a dick measuring contest about who manufactures the shaft with the least deflection. Having half the half the deflection in correlation to tip placement is perfectly fine with me. I also don't like playing with a small tip diameter. In other words, don't expect me to compare whether it has more or less deflection than another shaft maker because I quite frankly don't care and an 1/8th of an inch is pretty easy to adjust to.

All that being said, I will talk about the feel of the shaft and cue and offer my opinion as to whether I feel that it hits soft, firm, solid, hollow, etc.

Got the same cue a couple weeks ago at sbe. Hit is amazing. Also got the vantage shaft but that thing puts too much English for me, lol. Been using the 314-3 shaft mainly and enjoying it.

I run a small 9 Ball tournament and break pot here in Houston so I'll be busy doing that most of the night, but I'm gonna try and hit some before and after.

Update

Played some 10 ball and some one pocket on a 9' last night with Manny Chau. Also put some time on a diamond 7'. Here are some impressions of how this cue hits and some other things I noticed.

1) Soft and sweet. This cue hits softish but with a nice resonation throughout the butt of the cue. I can honestly say that this is one of the better hitting cues I have picked up. The softness of the hit is most likely a combination of the shaft and the joint. I prefer wood to wood joints because they help you feel the cue ball. The 314-3 shaft hits a little soft but not anywhere near as soft as an OB1/OB2. Also the radial pin is so sweet feeling.

2) I usually like a woman with a fat a**, but the butt of this cue is skinny and now I'm in love. I haven't taken measurements yet, but the butt of this cue is definitely skinnier than most production cues I have picked up and feels skinnier than the P3 as well.

3) Wrap. The leather wrap feels great and will only feel better as time goes on. Enough said.

4) Balance. The balance of this cue is very even. Its not forward or back heavy. I picked up somebody's P3 and wasn't a fan because of how back heavy it felt. This cue just feels natural. The weight distribution makes it feel lighter than I'm used to but at 19 oz this cue feels like an extension of my arm.

Now a little about cue ball interaction and deflection.

I have a fair amount of stroke and this cue definitely encourages control. The speed and spin control feels intuitive. This is probably due to the feel of the cue and the radial consistency of the shaft.

The deflection is manageable and that is all that I care about. A little deflection doesn't hurt anybody and often times can help with some shots!
