New shaft feedback

Most if not all of the shafts made today are designed to accept the joint pin located in the handle. What is wrong with locating the joint pin in the shaft? How would the playability of the cue be affected? Also, I have purchased some of the old growth maple wood from logs that became waterlogged in the Great Lakes and sank during the winters a hundred or more years ago. Due to the higher wood density because of closer growth rings I want to use it for my shafts. How do you think it will compare to the predator design shaft or to shafts made from laminated wood?

There are also Superior shafts out there that are made out of this wood. Supposed to give a far stiffer shaft. I hit with one for 5 minutes and missed balls just as easy with it. It did play harder though.

I'd like to get one since I like my shafts skinny.
Where did you get it from if I may ask?
Paul Dayton is all out I think.
Thanks.

I get my old growth shaft for my scruggs from Jim Buss, and it has a 12.5mm tip size. I too liked thinner shaft, i think jim's taper will suit you.
