New shaft time?

I've been playing with a nice McDermott cue with a solid maple shaft for over a decade. Served me very well.

Mostly Triangle tips but tried a few others like the various 'Duds' and didn't notice much difference.

Shaft is getting a bit thin from a lot of cleanings and getting too whippy,

I'm tempted to try a new carbon fiber shaft but the deflection adjustment concerns me. Maybe a quality solid maple shaft would be my best choice, but not sure. I'd tried a Revo briefly and I shot like **** with it.

Too old a dog for new tricks? Suggestions?

Only you can know if you need a new shaft or not. Here's a link to the McDermott home page. From there you can read more about the various shafts they make today. Because of their different way of fitting shafts to cues, they suggest sending your Butt to them or you might end up with an uneven spot at the joint. Again, up to you to decide if that's important to you or not.

There is not one shaft available that fits every player. If it's not broke. Don't fix it.

If you are wearing out the shaft even after 10 years you may want to look into your cleaning methods.

If you are used to playing with a standard shaft and don't feel that is any issue with your game then no reason not to stick with the same shaft type. If you are stuck at some level and can't figure out why, then trying an LD shaft may work but it will take at least of week of daily practice with it to come close to how you play with your original shaft.
