Ok - So maybe I am posting this wrong... but, I couldn't find a general hardware Q&A thread. But here goes:

I am just wondering... can someone shed some light on this question:

What is bluish-darkish tinted treatment I see now on nearly all the pros shafts?

Thanks!

I'm assuming it's chalk from playing a lot. My 2005 Lambros is that way after years of use.

Funny, I'm no pro, but my cue's shaft has the same tint. I think it's something the aliens do to maple trees to make this tint appear after hours and hours of play...

Ok. So it's Magic Mojo Dust applied by the Pool Gods while you sleep. If you practice enough. :)

Blue chalk getting in the grain of the wood. Some pros do not like their shaft getting cleaned when they have a tip change. And I guess some did not have a sealer or coat of wax when new, so the chalk easily accumulates.

Or maybe you're seeing carbon fiber? Marketing dept is not earning their keep.

Well, I captured some screen shots I'll post here later. But I do think you are most likely right, and it is simply the higher-end unlacquered shafts, and the rubbing of the pool glove up and down the length of the shaft between shots, with the excess chalk, causing the bluing to be much more noticeable.

Still it is very dark in some cases... like halfway to being black.

Here are a few screen shots: (Scroll to right side too - it's a very large hig-res image)

And thanks for your replies by the way... I appreciate it. I will have more meaningful questions and topics for discussion in the future I am sure.
