Hey AZ,
I'm a Chicago resident, and last Saturday night I ran in to Joe Gold. I know he's been missing in action for a while, so I stopped and talked with him. To make a long story short, I got a layered tip from him that he says is brand new on the market.
He went on to say that this tip is only being made in small batches, and he only had 35 of them left. Needless to say, I installed the tip on my playing cue, and it rules! As far as I can tell, this is an 11 layer tip that runs medium-hard. It machines really nicely, holds it's shape (no matter how badly I abused it), and holds chalk really well.
The tip that I received from Joe is otherwise unmarked. Joe said that the batch he had right now was only a trial run, but that these were made by hand and could only be made in small batches.
I tried calling him today to order some more. I found out that he won't be back in Chicago for another 4 weeks... I'll keep you posted...
