New ZYLR Cue!!!

After a year long wait I just got my new Zylr cue today! This is my 2nd cue from Kerry and it looks even better than the first one. The Bacote is some of the darkest and most beautiful I have ever seen!

This cue also has a few improvements over the last one. Like the new "Ivor-X" ferrules and Moori tips. Kerry introduced these new ferrules at the trade show about a year ago. This cue also has a prototype black anodized aluminum joint pin.

Now for the good part. Kerry said that this cue will be in the new, 3rd Edition of the Blue Book of Pool cues coming out next year. It was one of 6 cues they shot, and the only Bacote cue he had. If you're interested in seeing some pictures, send me an email and I'll shoot you the zip file I made. For some pictures check out my Yahoo album...

the prototype anodized aluminum pin looked interesting, mind telling us how is the hit of the cue?

Outstanding cue, Mike. I've seen only a few Zylr cues, and each one makes me think I want a cue just like it. I have no doubt that it hits second to none, but give us your impression anyway.

That is a sweet cue...
I love the look of bacote and that piece of wood looks second to none. Let us know how it plays although I'm sure, from what I have heard of his cues, it will play like a dream.

Guys,
I wish I still had my other one to compare it to since this one hits slightly different than I remember. Now the first cue I had was a 59" birds eye maple cue with melamine ferrules, where as this one is a 58" bacote cue with Kerry's new "Ivor-X" ferrules. I don't know that the joint pin plays a big role in how it hits. I think he just used it to keep the weight down and make the cue easier to balance. Boy did that work out great!

The way a cue plays is so subjective that I won't even go into a long ordeal about "This plays like a dream or this is the nuts, etc." I will say that this one seems to hit even more solid than the last one, but it's probably a combination of things that's causing that. I will say that the cue is very accurate and has great feedback. There is definately not a problem moving the cueball around, either. In fact, I'm overplaying position a bit right now since this cue is a little stronger than the last one I played with.

All in all I would say IMHO that this cue plays even better than it looks, and that's saying a lot!

Mine has a strong birdseye forearm and purpleheart handle.
It weighs around 19.3 oz.
Balance is great. It floats in my hands.
The only metal part is the 3/8 11 pin.
Kerry leather wrapped it too.
Buckhorn collar on the butt and brown phenolic on the shaft.
Oh, it hits crisp. Absolutely crisp.
I like the Ivor-x ferrule because it's much more quiet than Melamine and still hits crisp but not as hard as the melamine.
The one thing I love about mine is if when I power the ball, like when I literally throw the cue to the cb, it doesn't rattle.
Kerry's taper and no metal stud construction makes up a solid cue. He also chooses his wood and cue materials very consciously.

LC3 and Cuewiz,

My friend is selling his Zylr on eBay right now. Here's the link:

He's the person turned me on to Zylr's in the first place. He really likes lighter cues now, and I think his new cue isn't too far away frome being done. This one does NOT have the Ivor-X ferrules, but Kerry can put them on if you like.

I really like the design of this one since it looked like the one I had, too.

I believe Kerry do post here sometime back.
Yes he does when he has time.
I do some personal computer work for Kerry once in a while.
I can tell you he barely has time to get on here.
He is inundated with orders all over the US now.
Kerry takes a great time qualifying his customers to make sure they get the cue they want. Some people take DAYS just to order a cue. I kid you not.
You can PM him at zylrycue here but you're better off e-mailing him.

Looks like someone is going to win that cue on Ebay.
Kerry's reputation for making solid players' (not wall hangers) cues is getting around.

That cue will get sold today. I remember that my auction went crazy in the last 5 minutes (as do most of them on eBay), so I know he's not worried. It will be interesting to see what he gets for it though...

Hey Mike, thanks.
Your buyer's friend wants to buy my used Z ( I bought off a friend who went broke one week, lol).
They are now Z-addicted in SF.:p
Gotta love it. A no points player's cue sold for more than other's fancy cnc'd Joe Gold wannabe cues.

Joeseph,

Good deal. Of course, then you can use that money to get a new Zylr! I think with the new spray booth Kerry should be able to get those great cues out a little quicker. That's a good thing, too, since his demand is going up!

Faster?lol
Thanks to you and the other Mike, his phone is ringing off the hook.

Boy, you should see his Bubinga and Olive wood. Outrageous looking wood and they are rock solid. He has some old growth birdseye that I've been salivating on. Those have to sit for few more months.
