Newbie questions...refelting/cloth choice

Hi All,

I've been doing research and I can't make any decisions. I have a 7 foot Olhausen that I picked up for $350 on Craigslist. It desperately needs at least new felt.

I've read RKC's instructions on leveling, and as soon as my machinist's level comes in, I think I can get that done.

I'm leaning toward using Granito Basalt cloth from Mueller's (I was originally planning on using eBay 90/10 worsted, but this seems significantly heavier with a good reputation)

I've found plenty of refelting instructions, but have found that there is a general consensus that worsted cloths are more demanding to properly install. I am more than willing to dish out the $30 for the Simonis videos, but they aren't available.

If I take anything to a professional, it will be the rails only, as that would be the upper end of my budget (quote of $100 to refelt rails, $200 to refelt and replace cushions, both labor only). I will definitely be doing the bed myself.

So here are my questions:

1) Any reasons not to go with Granito Basalt? Also, any experience with the Bionic Basalt (same cloth with a stain repellant)

2) Are there any accessible instructions (free or paid) to install worsted cloth that can be understood by someone who isn't a pro mechanic?

3) Is there a way to test the cushions to see if they are dead? I don't know the history, but the table is older than Accu-fast cushions, and it has been serviced about 10 years ago, but I don't know if cushions were replaced.

4) Any experiences with T&M Billiards in Willimantic, CT? If they have a good reputation as stand-up mechanics, I'll go with them.

Thanks so much!

-Neal
