Newbie tip questions:

1) How should my tip look, and how do I keep it in good condition - need some links with large, clear pictures

2) Also need to find a link to instructions for changing out tips and/or ferrules

3) Also, I note that some ferrules use screw-on tips instead of glue-on tips - any opinions on that?

4) How do I sort through all the different tips on the market - the prices are low enough that I can pretty much afford anything, but what do I want?

Thanks in advance!

Newbie tip questions:

The sides of the tip should be flush with the ferrule. the front of the tip should be rounded. Some like the profile of a nickle and some others a dime or others some place in between. The rounder the profile (dime shape) the more spin that can be put on the cueball.

2) Also need to find a link to instructions for changing out tips and/or ferrules

Look on you tube under cue tip replacement. There are many.

3) Also, I note that some ferrules use screw-on tips instead of glue-on tips - any opinions on that?

Have that ferrule replaced as they are a cheap plastic, the tips are horrible and they do not afford a solid hit.

4) How do I sort through all the different tips on the market - the prices are low enough that I can pretty much afford anything, but what do I want?

No one can answer this but yourself. what you need is experience so as to see what feels good to you.

Thanks in advance!

Reviving the thread for another newbie tip question:

These budget cues (Viper, Tournament Choice) with non-specified - and specifically the McDermott/ Lucky 'standard tip' - Any reasonable expectation on size and hardness?

(I assume 13mm, medium?)

Thanks!
