Caveat parvuli
I haven’t been an active poster here, probably won’t be compared to most – I’ve been a member only since last year sometime and not an ‘every-day’ reader. I have, however been a bit more active in the past week-ish and offer this observation.
A frequent path for a thread goes something like this. It starts with an observation or statement on a positive note. It will have a few replies that remain positive and discussion like. Then there will be a less positive statement a bit to the contrary opinion of the OP. Next it moves to someone who mostly agreed with the OP but becomes more biting in the reply. Defenders of the opposing viewpoint become more biting - retorts from there become increasingly more personal and have little if anything to do with the thread topic. Many descend to “here is why I’m a hero and you suck” and the poster is kind enough to do a sentence by sentence quote breakdown of why.
If a post has more than a dozen or so replies, funny/joke thread exception noted, it seems to become an “I’m rubber and you’re glue” playground conversation.
It seems many use the “value” when talking about someone’s contribution – “value” seems to be most often misused.
Most of you have been here significantly longer than I have, and I respect that you’ve made this forum what it is, I also despise that you’ve made it what it is.
Our sport already has enough negative connotations/detractors – and the “value” that you’re providing by posting negative comments – isn’t of value to anyone.
I view this forum as a ‘virtual pool hall’ where POOL topics are discussed - we have the great advantage of getting to pick the brains of some pool-yoda’s here - I just wish it could be read without the pissitudes removed.
I actually APPRECIATE the TOI and CTE conversations – regardless of if they’re in the main forum or aiming conversation. If it adds to the conversation, great – and if you think it doesn’t apply to the conversation, maybe think about NOT trying to get the last word in and keep it to yourself.
Thank you to many in the 14.1 forum – I’ve never really thought about 14.1 much but started playing the ‘challenge’ and have recorded a 26 and a 27 after a bit of practice. I hope to figure out how to post one to get on the list.
