Sean,

You are correct in your assessment. I seem to be in the minority on the shaft taper. Everyone that I have talked to loves Andy's tapers. I have relatively small hands and fingers, so maybe that fact makes me prefer a longer taper. I would never say anything negatively about Andy's cues at all. I think they are great. And I may take yours and Ted's opinions and have the shafts re-tapered.

Thanks for all of you help adding the pics.

Mike
Boys, take it easy. I got alot of cues from andy too,and sometimes things slip through. May be I'am to use to the great cue makers out there, that make a great cue ,like tascarella or searing. Andys very good but lets stop right there. ALL IT IS, IS WHAT YOU LIKE, PREFERANCE.Like my very dear friend gus szamboti said.let every man stand on his own merit and make what he wants. Plus he said FANCY NEVER MADE A BALL. Those are facts from gus not me .My he rest in peace. And mike I got you some GREAT PLAYING CUES that you got ridd of. Right???????? Sorry my opinion and facts this time, ....And by the way I told Andy what kind of taper to put on that cue I sold you and I told him long relaxed taper, (pro taper) And you even told me you didn't like it .It hit to stiff, and you didn't like the ferrule material..

We're all fine here...thanks. Glad to see this post about your (purported) affiliation with Gus. Now I know who you are. So, let me get this straight. You're mad at Mike for some reason and now you come here and use this thread to try to tank Andy's work. Guess by going public with your opinion you won't be getting any more cues from him....no wonder why now.

And where was it stated here in this thread that a Gilbert cue was compared to a Tascarella or Searing (didn't think so).

Oh yeah, mr. "know it all", you don't know $hit.
For the Record, I am not mad at mike for any reason what so ever. 2nd I seen his ad for selling his cue and just replyed to it. And you get on the guard because you sell gilbert cues. I just stated what mike told me about the cue I sold him,and he told me what he liked and disliked about it. One was the taper, and the other was the ferrule, he even said it did not look good. I answer his ad ,and you get in my shit, Your the fricking problem, not me or mike. I stated a opinion and fact, you just did't like it,seems like your mad,not me. As for andy if he make 's me another cue or not its none of your or any bdys else business, and right I don't know shit, but i do know cues ,smart ass. Are we done???? Mike sorry about this ,can't even have a laugh anymore. Your always okay in my book, as to the other ,go and bother someone else about your cues.

Yes, we are done and I'm not mad. However, would like to clarify something here by saying that your posts above should have referenced you wanting to "have a laugh" or "LOL" or :) .....something to that effect.....were it the case, as you just said. As written, they seem to be a dig at Andy's work and a blatant jab at Mike regarding the sale of his cue.

As for me being "mad" or "the problem" or "on the guard because sell gilbert cues"....that's certainly OK to have that opinion, but you are dead wrong. If you knew me or anything about me, you would know that.

know it all, you have a great day. :D

Gilbert markings

Kind of interesting about the 05 vs. 06. I had, what I know consider to be a "cuemaker error" cue from Andy. It was a 6 point hi lo jump break. He mispelled Gilbert, leaving out the "l". I called him about it and we both had a good laugh. He offered to refinish it and correct his signature, but I thought it would be an interesting conversation piece and kept it all original.

By the way, I really like the work he has been putting out lately.

Hey Cuenut,

Where did you run across a Ben Cooper? Unless you are from the Charleston, SC area. I used to be a dealer for Hurricane cues when Whitey made them around '94-'96 in Mount Pleasant, and I met Ben when he worked for Whitey then. I heard from Mike Staubes that Ben is making a pretty nice cue now, but I haven't played with one yet.

Scott, OMG I rmember that cue and you telling us about it. Maybe he had a few too many Buds that night and misspelled his own name. LOL !!! That Andy's a funny guy and am glad you left the cue as is. Know where it's at now?
