Its taken me a long time to realize that one of the hardest things one will ever get past is themselve. This advertisement says that....hey I want business and Im willing to offer it. I think the days of ....if I build it they will just come....are essentially gone in a lot of cases. In order for something to grow people need to have it on their conciousness and the only way for that to happen is advertisement.
This guy is one smart guy. So you give some Christmas Cheer? You might just hook a fish or two for the long haul. If you do then you really get back all of the Free Pool you ever gave out. If it were me I would have someone on duty waiting to help people who wanted some help with their game in exchange for some free practice time.
It beyond me why more people do not see that if drinks are paying for the place. A great way to get drinkers in there is to offer them something that will pull them in and secure the fact that they might just like to be there.
It just involves someone getting past themselves a little bit.
I actually saw a room owner stop a promotion where you could play from 12-5pm for $10 because he couldnt stand the fact that he wasnt getting $5 dollars an hour for that time and he had cultivated drinkers on that day he did the special. The day he ended it there were 13 people in his place..x $10 and they all were drinking beer and having fun. 3 yrs later he starts it up again for $5 and now instead of Sunday, he does Friday, Saturday and Sunday and now there is basically no one there.
He has been running it this way now for a year.......just now they are barely starting to trickle in. Think of all the money he lost. Its amazing. He lost 200 minimum on Sunday x 52wks a year x 3yrs= $31,200 not to mention when word spreads more people come..he probably easily lost 40 to 60k. If it were left alone and spilt over into Friday Sat and Sunday like he is running it now he lost a lot more than that. Sometimes its just hard to get by yourself isnt it? I agree thats promotional greatness!
