Watching Steve Davis play was like watching and waiting for paint to dry.

At the time I detested Steve Davis as he would beat my hero Alex Higgins and then he moved onto beat Jimmy White and an early Stephen Hendry.

Steve Davis V Dennis Taylor 1985 World Snooker Fnal and I watched it in a jam packed Lucky Break Snooker Club in Clydebank.The final went on for so long the bar had a lock in after hours and the booze flowed and everybody cheered for Dennis Taylor so you can imagine what the atmosphere was like when Dennis won and Steve the robot finally lost !

Stephen Hendry got the measure of Steve Davis and put him to the sword and Steve Davis faded out of the picture.

Only then did I realise how great a player Steve Davis was,yeah I'm getting old.Best of luck to Steve Davis.:smile:
 
I'm a Steve too, ten days older than Davis, worth pennies not millions, best break of 47 not 147, but at least i have all my hair :D
 
I'm a Steve fan, I'll cheer for him till he can no longer hold a cue and even then I'll pray for a comeback. When he beat John Higgins last year at the World Championships, it was the most exciting match I'd ever seen.
 
Steve ' Interesting ' Davis !

Steve Davis percentage tactical play made him seem robotic and monotonous to watch as he never took a chance on a pot if a safety shot was on.Not even if it meant he could take a chance and score a century break.He won many titles playing in this style but it wasn't entertaining to the viewers.It earned him the nickname 'Interesting' as it was boring to watch and he got lampooned on the UK TV show Spitting Image.

I didn't appreciate him until he faded and when he beat John Higgins I was shocked but the next day in the News of The World...
