Ob-1 or 314-2 (again, I know)

Hello,

this is my first post here so I thought I'll introduce myself. My name is Marcin I am a new (but determined to get good :D) billiard player. I play since january ~6 hours times a week, that's not much, I know, but I got time to improve (I'm only 30 years old:D).

I play at two clubs at the moment and I don't feel comfortable with playing with club cues any more (they're terrible), so I decided to get myself a schmelke sneaky pete  and some nice speciality shaft, to start some serious training right away.

It's too early to say about any particular 'style' of my play, but I like delicate, rotational play (thought as probably any newbie I have troubles with long-shots).

I decided to get 314-2 or Ob-1 shaft (I don't want Z-2 or Ob-2 because I belive they might be too extreme for me at the moment, I've read they're not too beginner friendly). My friend allowed me to try his ob-1 but his cue is 16oz (the bar cues are 19,5oz) so it was difficult for me to switch and I wasn't able to judge the shaft propertly. I liked the wooden ferrule, soft feel and ability to rotate nicely, though.

The predator receives some praise here, and I would decide to get that shaft without any doubt, but I've read also that their ferrules are prone to damaging. I'll be honest with you, 300$ is a lot of money to me, so I would be seriously pissed if my ferrule broke off. How is the predator QC recently ?

I read the previous threads about those two shaft, I know that ob-1 has softer feel, while 314-2 is stiffer (with both having similiar deflection propertied), but which would you suggest to buy considering ferrule durability, fit and finish and also overall "playability" ?

Get a Predator Sneaky Pete with a stainless steel joint, which are widely available for $314. I strongly recommend upgrading the Everest tip to a Kamui of your own choosing.

Buy from a store that offers refunds if you don't like it, eg Seyberts.

I don't see the value in buying a Schmelke and adding a LD shaft.

Predator ferrules are prone to cracking but they offer a guarantee. Mine cracked and Seyberts sorted it out with no fuss - replaced the whole shaft, in fact.

As far as I know Predator has improved there ferrule material after the recall and also believe it was improved on again since then. For me I like the 314-2 over the OB but I like the OB2 over the Z-2.If your sticking with the bigger tip I would go with the Predator.
