What is the reason I dont see cues with brass rings or inlays? I see lots of silver work but no brass. Brass w/ ebony looks attractive imo.
Just curious

My Scruggs has 'em

I have a one of a kind Tim Scruggs custom that I designed and had them make for me back in 1995. It has black, brass, black, stich, black, brass, black rings at A,B,C,D, and E positions. Everyone always asks me if they are gold! The cue has ebony outlined veneers on the four points of padauk(blood wood) and an ebony butt sleeve with more padauk inlays that mirror the ebony inlays inside the points. He told me at Valley Forge last March that it's worth $3000 now.

nice!

That sounds like a very attractive design. Any chance you could post pictures, especially of the rings?

My cue

I would, but then it would probably show up somewhere else, so I don't think so. Sorry, but I would like mine to stay a one of a kind! The only one that is made anything like it was a custom, one of a kind Schon that Bob Runde made for me that got stolen off of a UPS truck 17 years ago. Last reported sighting of that cue, I got told it was bought by a collector in Arizona. Bob would not make another to replace the one that got stolen. These are the reasons that I don't want to post pics, so it won't get copied. I like my design and want it to remain a one of a kind!!!

brass?

I understand.
So, for the cuemakers, any reason why silver is so heavily used in rings whereas brass is almost never used?
