Hey Guys,
I got a call from a guy who wants me to build him a shaft to fit the Pechauer butt in the picture. I haven't seen the butt yet so no I don't have any measurements.
I searched the forum and back on Valentine's Day of 2022, there was a discussion of fitting a Pechauer shaft, but no picture of the butt/pin was ever provided so Michael and Kim were basically guessing. I've got a picture of the butt, included.
At that time Kim, you wrote "
For those familiar with both pin and insert, will this fit? I know they're both basically 5/16-14. But the Pechauer pin only has threads on the top of the pin while the Mezz is the opposite.

Also, would a Mezz butt accept the large pilot of a Schon shaft?
Mezz/Pechauer is the worst combo, for the reasons you give yourself. Swapping the United insert with a regular 5/16-14 insert and boring out part of the insert to 8mm/.815" will solve all your issues. United insert have a nylon backing, that's what makes it so tight.

Does the above still seem to be accurate?
Thanks very much guys,
Gary

Don't pull the Mezz insert, it's 1 5/8" long.
Try facing it off first flush with the shaft and see if you can bore the front to fit the Pechauer.
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!
If you have to remove the insert, bore it out, it's a big body insert. If you heat it, you might lose the ring work

Jmo of course
