what is an "old growth" shaft, and where can I get one w/ a 3/8x10 thread? are they REALLY better?

Old Growth Shafts
If you are speaking about that wood that was submurged for many years in one of the various bodies of water then it is all hype.
I spent many years logging and sawmilling and was involved in the removal of these logs from the bottom of lakes and found that the wood that came from these logs was very pretty but had no strength. All the goodie had been sucked out by the enzymes.
Don't fall for this hype about it being good shaft wood. It is not.
Now if you are speaking about wood that comes from virgin maple; of which I don't know where to find any, it would be very dense and probably make a fine shaft if you like a stiff hit.
