Attention Olhausen Physicists:
I just had my eight foot Olhausen recovered (Simonis 860) and had the shims changed out to "3/16 60 durometer in order to see if this would reduce the pocket rattle. Changing the shims has made the table play better:
1. The rattles occurring when a ball grazes a long rail on its way to a corner pocket have been eliminated.
2. The rattles occurring when a ball hits a shim on the way into a corner pocket have been largely eliminated. Now even if they bonk back and forth (which doesn't happen often) they almost always still drop in.
3. Other pocket rattles occur very infrequently.
To be clear, before the fix, my rattle situation was infrequent and I didn't view it as a big problem. I jar more balls on a tight Diamond in a night than I rattled balls on my Olhausen in a week.
The work was done by Absolute Billiard Services from Cumming, GA (not too far from Atlanta where I live). I highly recommend them.
Your results may vary.
