What pocket provides the best percentages for a right handed player?
I am right handed and have always broke from the right.

Is there even any advantage which pocket you pick.

A player should not favor himself here....
Many tables have idiosyncrasies and favor one pocket over the other....
...you have to learn to break from either side.

In the 'Make it happen', I felt they were breaking to the wrong pocket....
....I will quiz Alex when I see him.

From what I've learned both through study, and experience, is that a right handed person is best served by breaking from left the side of the table (as you stand at the head of the table looking at the foot spot). This is so because the right-handed player will have less difficulty reaching some shots. The reverse would be true for a lefty.
A player with very long arms would probably have little difficulty either way. I have an average wing-span and both side works for me, although I prefer the left.
In One Pocket, you know, every little bit helps.

Opinions differ about this. I'm left handed and break from the left (choosing the right foot pocket) because my opponent will make me shoot from the right side of the table (away from my pocket) where my body won't be between my shooting arm and the table.

What you meant to say was: "Tramps right. I was going to say the same thing."

The only advantage I can see breaking one side over the other is being right handed, if you break from the right (making left declared pocket) you can reach more shots because of bridging over the side rail. That being said, need to be adaptable to both sides based on table condition, opponent, etc.

Shooting for the left pocket there are some shots that are more difficult to reach for the right handed player.

But you need to learn how to master these with your right hand, playing opposite handed, and/or using a bridge.

When the udder guy is breaking you will have no choice so get used to playing to both pockets equally. Plus, if one pocket has a roll or two, that should factor in which way to break.

Some players agree with you for the same reason I choose the other way: because it's easier to shoot. I guess the difference is whether you want it to be easier to shoot on defense or on offense. I'm a pessimist.

This is the right answer (as pt and djv also said).

Another reason is that if you play too much one way you'll shoot at the wrong pocket when you're forced to change.

And by you of course I mean me.

One can't fight the table. Some tables the banks off the short rail long table may favor one pocket or the other.

If you're right handed it easier to shoot spot shots to the left hand corner pocket. So you really have to practice the break and spot shots from either side.

The break and the spot shot are critical in one pocket. The spot shot must be mastered in many different ways.

the majority of right handers break from the left to the upper right pocket as you stand ready to break
grady in one of his vhs/dvds showed situations that basically showed where advatages /disadvantages
to breaking from both sides even out and it didnt matter

The spot shot..,

If you shoot the spot shot equally from both sides it might not matter, but if like me you make the spot stronger from one side then the other, that's your side.

If you can shoot the spot shot and get shape anywhere on the table, that's your side to break from.
