Great tips from Kirkwood and Sasman. You might want to consider buying "Upscale One-Pocket" by Jack Koehler. It's easy to follow, available and affordable (I got mine for under $10 through Amazon.com). The best 1P books are "Winning One-Pocket" and "Shots, Moves and Strategies" by Eddie Robin, but they are next to impossible to find and extemely expensive ($100 apiece would be a bargain these days). Kirkwood made a great point about learning to play 1P the "right way" - if you learn the Chicago squeeze style, you'll be tough to beat and will definitely enjoy the game more (being on the sending end of the squeeze instead of the receiving end). Like I've said before, once you fall in love with 1P, you've got a friend for life. Best of luck.
