Does anyone know of any pool rooms or places to play around the Oneonta, NY area? I'm going out there on a business trip and can't find anywhere to play. Thanks for any info.

I don't know of any in Oneonta, but south here in Binghamton (about 45min-1 hr away) is a pool hall (Ball Buster Billiards - 33 W. State St in the Binghamton Plaza).

I'm only saying this because I can't remember, look in the phone book. There was at least one that I know of because there were guys who came to Binghamton regularly who played there.
I played at Ball Busters in Binghamton when it was The Pocket Billiard Lounge for over twenty years.

thanks

thanks for the responses guys, especially the link, I will have to call them. I did try the yellow pages , but found nothing. Hope the room in the link is still open. thanks again.

I knew a couple of guys up there, Carl Mondillo and a guy named Ralph, who was a jeweler, his last name escapes me.

ER,

Half an hour East in Utica is Hippo's Billiards. Lots of Gabreil's Tables in first class shape. Half an hour West is Cap's Cue Club in Syracuse. Just slightly North of Cap's is Salt City Billiards. If any of these places are of interest, I'll be glad to give you directions. If you're coming during the week of August 20th, don't miss the Turning Stone Joss 9 Ball Event. The casino is ten minutes from Oneida.

Sorry ER, I must have been day dreaming! Utica is an hour North of Oneonta on State Route 8. Syracuse is an hour and a half Northwest. Ball Busters is also an hour away down Route 88 in Binghamton. Turning Stone is also about an hour away off the New York State Thruway between Utica and Syracuse.

gallery billiards is within about an hour. i stopped in for a beer and a few racks on my way back NJ. nice little room, nice crowd, great hospitality.

My cousin Ted used to own a place there called The Brass Rail. Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago and the place was sold. I'm not sure if the new owners renamed it, or closed it down. It was right in the downtown area of town, and at the time, I think it was pretty much the only place in town.

erbilliards:

You might also try this resource, albeit the info may be dated (read: call the places listed here you're interested, to be sure they're still in business):

http://playpool.com/

Here's the results for Oneonta, NY:
http://playpool.com/finder/locator?location=Oneonta%2C+NY&type=poolhall

Again, you might want to call each place listed, to be sure it's still in business and what the rates are.

Hope this is helpful,
-Sean

Think the place you're talking about became Straight Shooter Billiards, on Main St. Seemed like it might still be open when I went by there last year. Used to play some there a few years back till I got my own table.

Hey Gary! :)

Hippos is a good room - it's been a bit since I've been there. The other suggestions are good as well. You can't go wrong with any of the Syracuse rooms. Good suggestion on the Turning Stone tourney - I myself am going to try to make it! .... Have fun and good rolls!
