I just bought a DeWalt planer Model DW735
Whats everyone opinions on these planers
Here is the Specs:
Features: Powerful 15.0 Amp, 10,000 rpm motor handles larger cuts in wider materials with ease
Three knife cutter-head delivers 30% longer knife life and makes knife change faster and easier
Two speed gear box allows users to change feed speed to optimizing cuts per inch at 96 or 179 CPI
Fan-assisted chip ejection vacuums chips off of the cutter-head and exhausts them out of the machine
19-3/4" cast aluminum base is 2X more rigid than a standard 10" base and folding tables
Automatic carriage lock reduces the movement that causes snipe without the need for manual engagement by the user
Material removal gauge and extra-large thickness scale deliver accurate cuts with every pass
Extra-large turret depth stop allows users to return to most frequently used thicknesses with ease

Normally $549 I caught it on sale for $499

That looks like a nice machine. I've had a Delta planer for about 10 years and haven't used it three times probably. I don't do much flat work and have found it to be of little use in cue building, especially since my table saw makes a smoother cut than the planer considering the snipe. I've considered buying a Performax 16X32 sander before but I don't think I would use it much either considering that I don't build Butterfly cues.

I was told this planer has very little snipe we will see. I use my tablesaw a lot and it cuts nice. This may be a waste of money but if i need it i guess ill have it. I almost bought a delta and was told the snipe is much worse and they were out of stock. The delta was $300 cheaper it may of been just as good.

These are a nice little planer. IMO, also they have little use in the cue building world. They are nice if you buy large 8/4 stock to run it through and be able to get a better overall look at the piece before cutting your squares.
I would rather buy $500 worth of exotics and let it accumulate interest!~!

You could always take it back and tell them it doesn't fit your needs...;-)
