Opinions On This Break Cue

well fellow posters, was wondering what everyone thought about this idea for a break cue. i have a Valley Sneaky Pete that i paid about $50 or so for last year. was thinking of sending it to a cuemaker and have him make a special break shaft for it. shaft specs would be around 13.5 to 13.75 mm, 8-10" taper, and medium to hard tip.

what do you guys think of this as a break cue? the reason i ask is because i ran into a guy at the billiards store the other day and he said thats what he had done to his Less-Than-Expensive sneaky pete and it was the best break cue he ever had.

besides, this sneaky pete is just sitting on my shelf, rarely use it anymore.

If the price is low enough go for it. Otherwise you might consider a new one. Bunjee Break/Jumpers go for about $100 and copies go for less than that.

You could also try a phenolic tip on your SP for about $30 or less.

Unless you have tried your friend's cue and it is the bomb and price is no object.

For $50 bucks this might be a great idea...could you please give YOUR definition of a "break" cue?

Well... let's add things up here. You have an inexpensive Cue that initially cost you $50. A Custom Shaft will cost you $125 to $175, add a Special Tip for another $10-$20, then you might add a collar to your inexpensive Butt so it won't break out, that will be another $25. That could add up to $270. Your NEW Cue might end up satisfactory to use or worthless, with no balance & no one to stand behind this new creation, but you. Then you try selling your customized Sneaky Pete to some of your so called Pool Buddies for $100-$125 & start over. That all takes time & your money. You won't have accomplished much if your efforts are for naught.

You could have purchased a Predator BK, a SledgeHammer, A BreakRAK BreakCue or many others off of eBay or at your Pool Room for $275 to $375 & used it daily at a cost of 1.02 cents (for the $375 Cue). Divide that by 3 years equals .34 cents a day. If you are young & you play a lot, the cost isn't even measurable over 10 years. I'm 62 & I've had Cues for 35 years.

The cues I mentioned aren't figments of the Imagination, they are genuine Tools of the Trade, so to speak, & they are precision made for the job of the Break Stroke. If you purchase something nice, you can start using it immediately & you have a reputable company to stand behind the product. You will save time & time is money. You will be instantly gratified & proud of your new cue. You might even save yourself some grief.

Even if you are a 3 Speed, investing your money is just that. I have a BreakCue that 10,000 or more people have hit with at Trade Shows & Tournaments over 2+ years. It's still a great Break Cue.

I was thinking about doing the same thing before but I realized that it would not be exactly cost effective especially when there are lots of cue makers out there are selling complete cues for cheap. If you are interested in a good break cue . Ive got a used Sledgehammer that Im trying to sell CHEAP! I can guarantee you that it will break better than your pete and any shaft made by any cuemaker!

well, my opinion of a break cue is simply one that is made, what are the words here, bigger and sturdier than your playing cue. made specifically for the break shot which, of course, is more bone-jarring than a normal shot.

therefore, thats why it seems to me that a break shaft should be bigger than 13 mm, and less taper to withstand the impact. the one break shaft i had Muellers make for my Cuetec Butt is 13.5 mm with about a 10" taper, and hard tip.

i believe Muellers can make me a shaft, with the mammoth ferrule, and a hard tip, including shipping for around $100. i guess i am searching for the solution to my breaking problems, i dunno. when you break 100 times, balls spread out, balls go in, but you rarely if ever have a shot, it seems like it might be time to change your luck.

The "break" cue definition that I was referring to in addition to the one you gave, is the kind that you go snap, crackle, pop, with when you get PO'd. Ya git my drift now? ;) For $50 it might be worth it....whap!!!!
