Opposite handed scotch doubles?

I mentioned in the thread about me not playing league that I'll miss arguing with my friend about what the current shooter should do in the current rack. Noting that we see things so differently that we probably would have trouble playing scotch doubles together.

One thing I've said all along about us seeing the rack differently is that he is right handed and I'm left handed. There have been several occasions when this was obviously the reason we saw things differently.

The title of the post was a little misleading. If you have played scotch doubles with a person that was opposite handed you might have some input to this thread, but here is what I'd like to talk about.

Do you think your table analysis takes into consideration if your right of left handed. If you do, is it conscious or subconscious?

One would think that over a period of time (many years) that if my planning wasn't influenced by this I would be shooting more awkward shots than I am. I know I don't consciously think about this when I'm planning the entire run. I know that, not often but sometimes, I've changed the plan later in the rack because of this.

Another thing. My "Does shooting on a 7ft table hurt?" thread where I decided to quit playing 7' table league. Because of my playing a lot on 7' tables, I don't think I take into consideration being able to reach shots when planning the out on a 9' table. I'm just not use to having to think about that. On a 7 footer you can reach most anything.

Generally, I don't believe that right or left handed is much of a consideration, but I think MOST (not all, but most) poolplayers cut better to either the right or the left. If you have a Scotch Doubles partner that cuts better to the right than they do to the left, then you play to that for them when possible. Most of the Scotch Doubles tournaments around here are on Bar Boxes, so reaching a shot really isn't a consideration, but which direction you're more comfortable cutting could be.

Later,
Bob
