Option for covering pocket nail heads

I have an old Wolverine table with plastic drop in pockets. I had to put some extra nails in my pockets and or relocate some of the nails because of years of nailing, the nails don't bite into the wood in the locations very well. I put hot glue on all of the nail heads which is holding up very well. However, I've noticed after cleaning my I sometimes get what feels like rubber adhesive on them in spots. I'm pretty sure it's from the balls contacting the hot glue. Which has taken me way longer than I should admit to figure out. I guess I have two questions. 1. Is there anything else you'd recommend I cover the heads with? I'm thinking of gluing some small pieces of leather over them maybe. 2. Are there any different styles of pockets that would attach differently I should look into?

Thanks as always!

I'd probably use the ones that the screw goes in and the plastic covers the head. With nails you might have to use a hammer and a punch to set the nail.
