has anyone watched the ESPN match from the BCA where Pagulayan is playing Santos Sambajon? the very first rack Pagulayan makes 6 balls on the break, has a decent shot, and doesnt get out!

i think he played the first shot somewhat hesitantly, instead of being aggressive. he got too close to the next ball and was left with a very tough cut which he missed.

6 balls on the break, a shot, and a professional doesnt run out. i dont feel so bad now.

It's a little different when you're on TV, or being watched by a huge crowd. In a dark poolroom, for a few hundred bucks a game, Alex would make that out every single time. The majority of us on this site would have a hard time running 3 balls under the hot TV lights.

A few days back in my local pool hall I saw a guy make a six pack on the break which included the 9 ball. Very impressive. Like Pagulayan he was a short Philllipino guy about 5 foot nothing and probably not too much over 130 lbs.Man can this kid hit them hard!!!!! Goes to show you that timing and co-ordination go along ways in our sport.RJ

Who is the...

best player you've ever seen that could make a bunch of balls on the break and control the cueball? I've seen plenty of guys who could make 3, 4, 5 balls on the break regularly, but the cueball went haywire with no position and sometimes flying off the table. Most I've ever made AND controlled the cueball is 5 here recently playing 9 ball while squatting the cueball damn near dead center with a straight in shot on the next ball. (Thanks Charley and BreakRAK)!

I played Morro Paez in a tournament once and about twenty or thirty people were standing just 7 feet away watching us and I couldn't make a shot! Every time I got down on a shot, I saw twenty or thirty pairs of eyes looking back at me. It was too much for me then. It was my first match of the tournament too!

I can't even imagine what it would be like to be looking into a TV camera and light! Of course these pros have had some time to get used to it, especially Alex.

I went through the same thing awhile back. I was playing a guy in a tournament and the table we were on was so damn close to a short wall with tables and chairs overlooking the table it was ridiculous. I'd say only about 5 feet from the table, with people lined up all the way down the wall watching and murmuring. It was unnerving to hear all those people muttering and such. I couldn't make squat. The guy I was playing was supposed to be sme kind of super-hero or something I guess, but I wasn't too impressed. I don't think he ever actually ran an entire rack, but then again, I didn't either. When I lost 7-4, I was pissed at myself for not being able to concentrate and block it out. I've focused on that, and now I can damn near close my ears when I need to. Guess that comes from the nagging wife too. LOL! The PH I play in has speakers like over top of nearly every table, and the owners are apparently deaf, because it is always ridiculously loud. And just when you get down on a shot and it is silent there, WAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! comes the screaming guitar solo, just as you're about to pull the trigger on a 9 Ball or something. Ridiculous, I tell ya.
