Unclear if it was discussed in another post but up until very recently we could read at a few places/blogs that Alex Pagulayan would be the 2012/2013 wildcard for the Americas. According to a document posted on the World Snooker website Floyd Ziegler (Canada) is now the Americas wildcard.

Anybody knows what happened? I know Ziegler is/has been very active on the snooker scene in Canada but I was under the impression he was on the older side (and I apologize if he isn't). How does the nomination process work? Who decides?

Alex beat Floyd 6 - 0 in the 2011 Canadian Snooker Championship final.

Floyd lost to John White 5 - 1 in the final of the Cambridge Invitational Pro/Am Snooker Tournament in February.

Lost to Alain Robidoux 6 - 5 in the semi of the 2012 Alain Robidoux Invitational in March.

Perhaps Alex didn't want to go the the UK. He had been reported as the nominee.

Floyd is in his mid 50s - the only amateur player to post back-to-back victories against Cliff Thornburn, who in 1980 became the only player outside the British Isles to win a world snooker championship.

Alex had to say no to that offer, he was already committed to another offer but said he prob would have accepted if that was not the case.

I find it interesting...

I find it interesting that you failed to mention that Floyd is a two time Canadian Snooker Champion, 2007 and 2010, who played to defend that Championship against Alex in the finals in 2011. Not to mention, his many accomplishments before and during that time. I think he is going to be a great representative for Canada. There was no other choice, and I'm glad he decided to take this opportunity to represent. I hope he goes there as the 3 time Canadian Champion. Good Luck Floyd.

Don't know Floyd.
Just reported recent results found wandering around the web.

Apparently he doesn't like to fly.

he was reported as 50 years old.
So he is about as old as Steve Davis
Rather late to be trying to crack the highest level.

I was watching the Canadian championships last Sunday and the guy on the feed mentioned that Ziegler would actually move to the UK later this year to participate to some pro tour events. He must be taking this pretty seriously....

Good luck to Floyd!
