Pechauer shaft on Mezz united butt

For those familiar with both pin and insert, will this fit? I know they're both basically 5/16-14. But the Pechauer pin only has threads on the top of the pin while the Mezz is the opposite.

Also, would a Mezz butt accept the large pilot of a Schon shaft?

if I remember correctly. You'll have to modify the inserts on both.

Mezz/Pechauer is the worst combo, for the reasons you give yourself. Swapping the United insert with a regular 5/16-14 insert and boring out part of the insert to 8mm/.815" will solve all your issues. United insert have a nylon backing, that's what makes it so tight.

I've got a Schon shaft and a Mezz United butt - can confirm that it won't take the pilot.

Pechauer pilot. I think approx .495 o.d.
Quick release barrel approx .320 o.d.
Schon pilot approx .528 o.d.
