Pechauer's Balance Point

A friend of mine shoots with a Pechauer and I really like its hit and balance, so I took a yard stick and measured it's balance point. It turns out it came out to 20.5" from the bottom of the buttcap - about 2" further toward the joint than most cuemakers' standard. Does anybody know if this is standard on Pechauer cues or does my buddy just happen to have a really forward balanced one?

Your buddy just has his cue set to be forward balanced, there might not be much of a weight bolt in the cue to bring that balance point back a bit.

Pechauer has weight bolts ranging from approx .7 ounces to 4.4 ounces to fit each individuals weight & balance needs.

That much of a forward balance is definitely not a standard on Pechauer cues.

I own a number of Pechauers, and they do balance pretty far forward compared to other cues I have. I'll check mine when I get home, but It doesn't unrealistic that they balance that far forward. I know my balance point is around the top of the wrap on my PL01, with no weight bolt (and its 19 3/4 oz)

If you look at the mass distribution on the shaft, the joint end is definitely much fatter (it seems like little or no taper for almost 3-4 inches from the joint), on all Pechauers. I like the pro taper, but the diameter transitions quickly from about 10-12 inches to the joint. The shaft makes the balance point very much forward. This is just Jerry's personal design, from what I got from talking with his son at the Expo.

I'm looking into purchasing a Pechauer in the near future but I wanted to see if their cues are generally pretty forward balanced. I'd really appreciate it if you take the time to measure your cue's balance point.

I checked last night. My PL01 is balanced about 21 inches from the bottom of the buttcap. This cue has an ebony forearm, and no weight bolt. I also have a PL01 jump/break. Note that this cue is heavy, a whopping 23 oz, and has a cocobolo handle, and jump joint. the handle is hollow, and there is no weight bolt. this one also measures in at about 20 inches from the butt. nearly the same balance point as my playing cue.

My wife has a Pechauer P23, no weight bolt, and it balances slightly more forward, about 22 inches. With the bolt (1oz), it goes back to about 21 inches. Its about 19.5 with the bolt. She also has a Pechauer Sneaky pete, and it balances slightly more towards a "normal" cue, about 18 inches. This is an all maple stick.

On the side, I have a Mcdermott sneaky pete with a predator shaft. This one i like to say "drives like a schoolbus" since it is so heavy in the end. the balance point for this one is about 16 inches. Its a great "take to the bar" cue.

All my pechauers have shafts that are more dense compared to other shafts, thus bringing the balance point forward.

i wouldn't dwell too much on balance point personally, Peachauer makes a great cue, and they are reasonably priced. Hope it helps.
