someone once told me they saw Peru Paul run 21 straight racks of 9-Ball from the break. anybody heard of this happening? or was this individual exaggerating?

i remember a couple of years ago Neils Feijen ran 15 straight racks over in Holland or some place, and he was wondering if that was some kind of record. 21 straight racks seems almost unbelievable to me.

I had personally watched Paul string an awful lot of racks together in ring games thru the years. As far as 21 racks, I would say that it is probably true, but accomplished on a valley bar table. I will tell you a story about Paul I know is true. I heard one night that Paul was to play the ghost in Marion, In. for $500 10 ahead. Supposed to start at 6pm. I left Muncie and arrived at the bar around 6:45pm and Paul had already got the money and left. After he got the money, he told Jr. Brown "last time I did this it took me an hour to win but I didn't get ball in hand after the break." Guess my friends in Marion made a bad bet.
My wife moved in with me in 1988 and did not have much knowledge of pool. After taking her to pro events and lots of small tournaments she had seen some of the greatest players in the world. Around 1994 during a conversation with another pool player about kicking at balls my wife jumped in and said " Peru Paul kicks in more balls than anyone that plays, gets shape and runs out." She was right, he would not only hit the ball, but would pocket a lot of balls even on a 2, 3, or 4 rail kicks. He was dangerous from everywhere on the table. The best time to play him was the first match of the day, and hope you didn't meet again til the next morning. Sam

I don't doubt it having seen him play. Even in poor health the last few years he would string 3 or 4 without trying hard, and that was at small bet sets. In other words small bet sets didn't get to much concentration out of him.

I Would Have To Have .........

I would have to have seen it, to say for sure if it was true or not. I din't but I played Paul many times and I would have to say it is very possible. When Paul was in dead stroke, no player on earth HAD to beat him. We were playing in the Hip-Hugger Lounge in Kokomo, IN one time and I remember going to the bathroom, reshaping my tip and eating a sandwich, ALL - WHILE PAUL WAS RUNNING RACK AFTER RACK.
That time I got the feathers & he got the chicken.
I vowed (to myself) to never play him again on a bar box and I didn't.
After that, we would only play at tourneys and on a 4.5 X 9.

OHB, The first tournament with a $25 entry fee I played in was at the Hiphugger. I don't recall the names of the players but it was a loser breaks tournament. One player broke and made the 9 6 consecutive times in a race to 7 and lost. The other player had won the flip and broke and ran out 7 in a row. Now that I look back, they must have both been bad rackers. Do you remember Steve Oaks? He will be at Derby City and maybe the 3 of us can get together. I may even play you some cheap one pocket with a little spot. 11-4 and the break. Just kidding. Would like to meet you though. Sam

Yes, Satman - I remember Steve

Steve and I had some good matches at the hiphugger and here in St. Louis. He is a great player and always knew how to make money. Looking forward to seeing a lot of old acquaintances at the DCC.
Hey, 11 to 4 & the break is NO PROBLEM !!!
Just tell me which side pocket you want !!!
