Phenolic tip maintenance

I've searched and found a few references to maintaining a phenolic tip, but nothing definitive. What's the general accepted wisdom, in terms of curvature, using a tip pik, etc?

I use a Williard's, nickel shaped. Don't get too aggressive with it and use it sparingly.

I use a piece of sandpaper to keep it roughed up to accept chalk, but not much else.

Tip

Mine when received (J&J b/j) had pretty much a nickel
shape. I used sandpaper to flatten out the top some,
which is better for breaking and jumping, and I TipPik'd
it some on the top, as I noticed it held chalk around the
edges, but not on the top very well. It helped some, but
I made a mental note to myself for center ball hit, or very
close to it, when breaking.

i emailed mike when i got my sledgehammer and he said all the maintenance a phenolic needed was to occasionally rough it up with some low grit sand paper if you wanted and that was it

I'll support this as fact. I sand mine about every 4 months just a little bit so it holds chalk better and that is all. Should last forever...

As far as shape, mine were purchased preshaped.
