I thought tips are leather? What is this phenolic tip I've seen being discussed here?

Canvas Phenolic tips are a hard material much like that used in some cue joints. It is very hard and makes a great jump/break tip. Not much good for playing.

Thanks again Chris. Guess I've been away from the game to long. I knew of jump cues and another stick for breaking but didn't know they used that kindof tip. Learn something new every day.
