The cuemaker recommended something without veneers and I wanted to see if this is something I'd like.

I would suggest veneers for that wood combination.

We are not exactly sure what the original cue was....no sticker

It was a shorter cue -- maybe 56" -- can't remember but, it had an old ivory or buckhorn ferrule. I bought it form an antique billiard dealer with a set of old Hi-Run Brunswick butterfly cues
