Koop, here's a Black Creek cue that we have....cored African blackwood forearm and butt. It has somewhat more grain than Gaboon ebony and is not quite as black. I'd classify it as a charcoal to graphite color with a bunch of tight brown streaks throughout.

Hey Sean, isn't also sometimes referred to as African Palmwood? I saw cue once that I thought was madagascar ebony, and I ws told it was African Palmwood. It look very similar.

That's the nicest Black Creek I've ever seen, very nice looking cue.

Lisa, I've never heard of it referred to as palmwood....but that's not to say it's not. Always just heard "African blackwood". Think it's used in a lot of high end woodwind instruments.

Jimbo, thanks....it's a nice one and Travis built it about 3-4 years ago, too. Wished he did more stuff with sharper cut inlay work like this. He's not building a lot of cues anyway these days....

Sean,

Thanks for the pic.
I agree with Jimbo, that's a real nice cue.

i only saw one but,,,,isn't african blackwood just like ebony from far away?

closeup there's a really nice grain pattern, but none of the pic show it. sean is right, at least with the wood i saw. it's a very very dark charcoal color with tiny hash marks for grain

Thanks Jack.

I really love the look as it is close to ebony but when you look close it has a brownish color with streaks. Very cool.
