pin

I need to buy inserts and pins for a Mcdermott quick release cue. Does anybody have one for sale?
Thanks, Ron

Ron, Probably your best bet is contact McD's service dept directly. They are pretty good folks and will probably be happy to help you out with whatever you need.

Ron,
Good luck with your McD. relationship. I haven't found them to be all that helpful or anxious to sell to cuemakers any of their McD. proprietary parts.
In the event that they won't work with you, these parts aren't at all difficult to make. The insert is nothing more than a piece of brass round bar stock, .460" x 1.437 drilled/tapped to accommodate the pin. There are no threads on the od. but rather a series of 'ledges' machined around the circumference in several places with a glue relief slot cut down the length.

Stay away from the 'factory' pin setup. It's an integral part of the ss collar. That and the pin doesn't go down into the forearm. Very weak setup. You can make the pin yourself also and make a better one in the process. 3/8 x 16 ss bolt. You can make the pin any length you want.

If you need a drawing, PM your address.

Sorry for the delay, my car's been down since last night so my movement has been a little restricted. Here's what I have so far.

As you can see, the pin does not extend through the ss collar to thread into the forearm. This leaves the minor diameter of the collar tenon to carry the entire load. Instant shear, certainly not meant for any type of side loading.

The insert is pretty basic. .460" od. x 1.440" long.
The pin on the right is one I made from a ss 3/8" bolt to spin McD. QR shafts when shooting finish. The McD QR thread is 3/8 x 16. The exposed pin is 1" long with 5 threads. I'll add dimensions for the blank guide section of the pin when I return from the shop. Later, KJ

Further info on the McD. pin.

There are 4 exposed threads, or 1/4" of the length. The blank shank of the guidance section of the pin is 3/4" in length x .278" in dia. w/bullet nose.

The insert id. should be machined to accommodate. Further, the insert is counterbored .070" deep x .388" id. at the entrance. Hey, go .390" LOL

The prints may have to wait, my car's my priority right now.
