i was told by a poolroom owner a few years back that american ping pong players are even worse off than pool players when it came to earning a living.

i've been watching ping pong on espn, lately, enjoying it, and surprised at the huge audience in attendance. i'm talking an arena-full worth of spectators.

pool and ping pong are being given some air play this month.

Keep in mind that it is in Chicago at the University of Illinois where they have a large selection of students to attract. Admission is probably free.

It is not ping pong that they play, rather table tennis. And if you notice there are no fat players. It is a heck of a workout - especially at that level of play.

The sport is revered in China where 2 Billion people play it.

Yeah you have to have super fast footwork and reflexes. My friend at UW got 4th in the US for colleges two years in a row. His name was Wei-Chong Gho. I would hit the balls around with him so he could work on his return of slams, so my topspin got very good, but his serves and backspin was out of this world. I caught the tail end on ESPN yesterday and was amazed to watch. My bar has a table top to go on a 7 footer and they have tourneys on Sundays in their Karaoke area. I may start to go to them for some fun. Good players there as well.

If ya been watching then you saw the guy lobbing balls in from the front row seats....lol

The guy kept backing up till he was over the rail ping pongin the ball 20 feet in the air and landing it on the table.......not once but 4 or 5 times! Then wins the point because the other guy can't believe the last shot wat gonna hit in bounds. That was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time!
