Places to see action in Las Vegas

I am going to be in Las Vegas for a week starting Saturday. I will not have much free time as it is a business trip. Is the Cue Club still the best bet for action if I can bet away a couple of nights.

Thanks

You want to "see" action in Vegas? Good luck. Nitville times 20. The last time my buddy and I were there we had to wait two days and endure the spanish inquisition to get a $200 set. The guy we ended up playing actually called a couple of the pool halls in Denver asking about us before he would get down. I've seen some big action at the Cue Club, but it is almost always when the pros are in town for a big tournament.

Sit there on the rail at cue club and u will find some action.`Mail Man` likes to have some action.A short Italian guy by name Mike loves action. The owner`s daughter also is a gambler. The spanish guy from Austin,TX always will be looking for the out of town players.
If u are looking for big money game I can arrange some.

Mail Man - Chuck Evans?

Jack...there has been a guy in Vegas for MANY years...called the mail man...NOT the Phx > Chuck Evans. I forget his real name.

Gabe Gerardi. Claimed to be a 70 year old Guy.he is a Italian guy and will not give any trouble during the game and he is almost a gentle man. One time I saw greg sullivan ( diamond tables guy) in action with Mailman on table 8 in cue club.He was in louisville for derby city few weeks ago.

I'm sure someone on here can make sure you get left with your nose open.

I would say hang around the cue club.

Hi OPB,

Freddie Boggs still stops by the Cue Club from time to time. Teddy Garrahan still resides in Vegas. Still looking for action! Haven't seen Gabe for a while. Stop by and ask for Greg Kuhl weekday evenings. He'll steer you right. Most all the "players" will be in Hollywood, CA for the Jay Swanson Memorial this weekend.

All the action I've seen lately at Pool Sharks is nine ball. Chad played Walter G for 5 large a set last week. Most evenings "Thumbs" works the door. Ask him about action.

Thanks for the information. Only go to Vegas to drive through on way from MT to AZ. Reason I thought it might be Chuck (in real life he delivers mail for USPS, he is a "Mailman" - have known him forever, we grew up together in the pool room), is he plays a lot of tournaments and action out of AZ --- and since he lives way north west of Phoenix it would be easy for him to head to Vegas on weekends. Talked to him at Thanksgiving he is still playing quite a bit and will be doing more when he retires. Maybe I could retire with him and hit the road too.

Make another movie

You and Chuck on the road? Two retired "pool players?
Hope you make a documentry movie about it?

Jackson

Retired but not from pool!!!

Chuck is married to a nice gal, she is very supportive of his playing, she wants him to move so he can play more, she plays - she sends her shafts up here and I retip and clean for her - she is going to make Chuck a very good road partner!

The Cue Club is loaded with One Pocket players. Walk in with a cue case, get a table or even sit and watch and you''ll get approached. The older italian guy referred to elsewhere in this thread as "Gabe" (not sure about the name though) was looking for a game and he plays pretty good. A couple or regulars from the Cue Club had just got back from DCC. There were probably 7 or 8 tables going at 2 in the afternoon and at least 5 of them were One Pocket.

Leagues are taking up most of the tables early in the evenng.

Pool Sharks is a younger bunch and 9 ball is the mainstay there.

just wondering how good is "pretty good" and what to expect

Hi,

I'm just wondering what the level of play is of someone when
someone here says "you'll get approached", or someone is
"a pretty good player", etc.. I'm sincere, just wondering if
I'd run into mostly A players, or better/worse, if I was to
be approached walking into a strange room alone with a
cue. I know there is no standard, just wondering on-average.

You never know, I started betting when I was c player. There is a probably a big difference by getting approached when you first walk in, and by some getting approached after hitting balls for a few minutes.
After watching someone hit balls, any good player can get a good read on your speed. kinda vague, but hope that helps.

I know if the short Italian, aforementioned "Mike" wants to play, he plays A+ speed at both 9-ball and one-pocket. He's played pros getting the 8-ball (playing 9-ball) and broke even. He's also broken even with Gabe Owen at 1-pocket with no spot.

I would say that's definately A+ speed.

In the past when that happened to me several times I told those guys``after watching my game you still aproached me to play me, that means u think that are a better player than me.If that is the case give me break and 10-5 in one pocket``.They then quickly leave me alone.Playing for money is NOT my modus operandi. Some times I tell them that I can rob them but that is not my style.
