plastic vs. metal threaded joint protectors

I like big pin bues(3/8th x 10) with flat face joints, and wood threads in the shaft. My question for cuemakers... When using joint protectors, are plastic joint protectors less likely to contribute to wearing down of the shaft threads since the pin on the JP is made of a softer material then those with a steel pin? Or am I just thinking too hard about it? :D (after all the cue's pin is steel.)

To Me You Are Thinking Too Much Into It. If The Shaft Starts To Get Loose I Get Some Boiling Water And A Cue Tip Or Eye Dropper And Put Water In The Shaft And Let It Dry. Wood Will Swell A Hair And Be Tighter. Dont Torque It Down Wet Because Youll Never Get It Apart. I Learned That The Hard Way

Thanks... I figured I was just buggin' on something irrelevant. I just like to ask questions. :grin-square:

Never had any problems with the wooden threads loosening... if they do, i will take it to qualified cue repairman. If my pet gets sick, i take him to the vet. If my cues get sick... I take them to dick neighbors.
