Playing in a APA qualifier tournament

OK, i am playing in a qualifier for the first time, and am entering into the 9ball division, because i dont have enough games in for 8ball, plus i dont want to enter 8ball being a SL6 when i dont play like a TRUE SL 6.

Now i am not sure if this is true or not, but a friend who plays in them often said, in 9ball, they put everyone into one bracket. But he also said, in 8ball if they have enough players they separate the players by ratings.

I will be back online after the tournament to talk about my experience, but it would be kewl, to hear everyone's experiences, in APA qualifiers, the good, bad n ugly.

Good luck. Who knows you might be shooting like a 7 or is it 9 in nine ball. Anyway, best of luck.

First off, good luck today. The APA singles is a fun experience. As long as you don't put too much pressure on yourself, it's a great experience win or lose. Alot of APA players don't play in too many tournaments so these singles qualifiers are a "cherry breaker" of sorts. I like it when they separate them by handicap. It is always nice to see a lower handicap get a shot at a higher one in the finals. I've got a bunch of experiences with the APA: good, bad and ugly. But now is'nt the time for those.
If you happen to win, the regionals is also really a really cool event, (at least in my area). Last year, my girlfriend played in the regionals, with very low expectations, and when she played very well and actually won her bracket, I have never seen her so happy before about pool or anything else for that matter. I think the realization of what she had done hit her and she was very proud of her accomplishment. She then went to Vegas and with the confidence of her play at the regionals, she did quite well.
Anyways, I hope you did well by the time you read this. If so, good luck at the regional. If not, get back on the horse and ride it till she bucks ya again.:)

It really depends on the amount of players. It varies because the amount of qualifiers that are held to even get to that regional tournament completely depends on how motivated the people in your league are to hold the qualifiers. Regardless of whether they have two seperate tournaments, you gotta bring your A game.

Well, It didnt go to bad today although the ending experience really sucked big donkey dick lol.

I get to the pool hall, about 1230pm and it starts at 2pm. So i am practicing, cuz they have Diamond tables, so i hafta adjust the way i play, and the pockets spit out balls left n right if your not careful.

Well they didnt have enough people for 9ball, So everyone played 8ball. !6 people showed up which was nice, cuz then it was Double Elim. With the splash board draw, as they call it.

First guy i play is a SL7 and i had been practicing before the tournament started. And at first i thought he was kinda taking it easy, when we was practicing, but i ended up beating him in the match, when it was hill - hill.

So i kinda figured i got lucky with that one. Well the next guy was someone i knew and he is a SL6 but plays like a SL7, but the league nite he is on is very tough so everyone is 1 - 2 ratings lower. Well i lose 4-1.

Next guy i play is the owner of the pool hall who is a SL7, and a SL9 in 9ball too. I end up beating him 4-3. So i was pretty giddy lol, not like overly happy but content that i was playing pretty decent.

Now the guy doing the brackets tells me if i win the next match i qualify for Regionals. cool no prob. Well as i am watching the match that determins who i play next, and its between a SL 2 and a SL 4 and they both come from the same league nite as the guy who beat me in the second match.

And they both play like a 3 or 5 should. Well the SL4 wins, and i notice he wasnt really playing too well against the girl he was playing. I jump out to 2-0, he bobbled a 8ball cut, and then hit the 8 in outa turn. So i break on the third game, make a couple balls but dont have a shot, he gets to the table and runs the table till he gets to a ball that is locked up.

He then plays safe, but i kick and hit my ball, but the CB coimes back over to the same area, and he does the same thing, so i kick but miscue and knock his ball out just enough to make it and the 8ball.

Next game, he kills me, he breaks and wins in 2innings, anytime i got to the table i seriously didnt have a open shot. And then the last game basically went the same way, just never got a decent chance when i was at the table.

So i didnt qualify for regionals, but hopefully the next time is a bit better. But i know i dont hafta deal with several of the Top SL6's n 7's next time, or any low SL #'s that play like a 5 or 6 either.

Overall i would say it was a good experience, considering i didnt really think i was a SL6 player but found out i can play with 6's n 7's in 8ball.
