I want to know if theres anyone else on here who works third shift(I work 12 to 8), and plays in big tourneys on the weekends? I feel like my concentration is hurting because of the lack of sleep. Is there anything I can do to help get over this and still be able to play my game short of taking a day off of work(which I can't really afford to do at the moment)

A few thoughts:

Get as much sleep as you can a day or two before the tourney. I think it helps even though there is supposedly no such thing as a "sleep bank".

Force yourself to have some quiet time prior to playing. Don't try to do much just because you are awake and energized hours before a match. Pace yourself.

Learn to meditate. Do it in your car for 1/2 hour and you will feel like you got 3 hours of sleep.

If you are travelling to the tourneys get a hotel room close by or at the site and take cat naps as your schedule allows.

Hope some of this helps.

Great suggestion on the Rhodiola. I've been taking this for years prior to playing. Sharpens the mental edge, helps avoid getting drowsy as well. It's been used for 2,000 years in Sweden and Russia, and now we're catching on in this country. I buy the brand made right in Arizona, called ENERGY RESERVES. Just google the brand called Verde Botanica. Have fun!
