on the first day....does anyone like it? or would you prefer letting it wear out for a week or so? just curious...

A week or so? Are you kidding??

Takes quite a bit longer than that, being played on regularly, for it to really break in, if you're talking about Simonis. One pro I know says it takes a good 3 or 4 months for it to really start playing well. That's his opinion, of course. Brand new cloth does tend to skid balls...

The only really bad thing about new Simonis 860 is it is faster than broken in cloth you might be used to, but once you adjust to the speed, it's fine.
