Playing Pool with MS

Just wondering if there are any pool players here with Multiple Sclerosis and if so, how do you handle it?

My wife has MS. She was diagnosed in 1977. Luckily for us, a mildly progressive form. There have been bad days...like the recent time in the hospital paralyzed from above the waist down. Luckily, a remission after steroid treatment (There goes her Olympics shot) and a few weeks in rehab. We now play recreationally once a week. Going to go play tomorrow, if all goes well.

If you've been recently diagnosed, I strongly suggest you contact the National MS society and do attend some support group meetings. Many of your questions will be answered there.

MS changes your life..it doesn't end it.

There is a local player that has MS and he is very good.
Not sure what he uses besides meds to control his play.
I know he uses a very long stroke.

I was diagnosed with MS 12 years ago. My case is relatively mild (or my $80k drugs work well) though I did have a bout with some double vision at one time when poker was my obsession. If you were just diagnosed, you never know how things will turn out. Stay positive.

I was diagnosed with chronic progressive MS in 1994. I've been lucky as the progression in my case has been slow. My main problem is with my right leg and foot although I have a little weakness in my right hand. Pool is great cause I can hobble around the table using the rail like a handrail. I regularly play a little one pocket, a little straight pool and a little golf on the 6 x 12. Have not needed to make any major adjustments in my stroke or way of playing because of the MS. I just have to be very careful that I don't catch my foot on the carpet and fall down. Aside from that it's been all good for me.

Good luck,
Mike
