Playing the ghost...

Lets say you have medium tough 9 foot brunswick. Obviously, if you can beat the ghost you're pretty good player. If you can't do that i guess you could spot yourself the 8 or the 7. What speed are you if you can beat the ghost with the 7 without making it on the break or use it in combination. Is that a A, B, or C level. The town i live in don't rate players like that so i don't know what speed i play.

What a dummy I am! All the times he's kicked my ass and I never once thought of asking the ghost for a spot. Next time we get together, I think I'll take the last two. :)

Ok...I need some splainin'.

What/who is the ghost.Imagined oppossing player? How does that work?

Jeez, I have only been on pool forums since before r.s.b and I still have to pay it forward. (g)

The ghost is your opponent who never misses, always runs out. Play him a set. You break, take ball in hand, try to run out. You fail, he wins. Your percentage against his competition? Like Efren, he never misses or fails easy position, but he just doesn't break well, so you have your chances.

i play the ghost all the time and sometimes the fool but seriously it sure helps in a lot of ways ,i tend to run out 1 out of 5 games sometimes i run out more but whos counting im thinking im a c player but then again i dont kno how to rate

Running one out of 5 makes you a very good "C", IMO.

thanxz slider , i take the ghost dead serious , even if i foul i give ball in hand i think going through all the motions really helps my game ...:)

You beat the ghost with the 7 and play no combos and doesnt count on the break? I would say B player.

ok what is the 7? i ve heard peop on here saying if u give me the 7 , but i dont have any idea what that means ?i f eel so dumb lol, now on a bb table i find it a bit tougher to break and run but im working on that

If you get the seven it means playing the seven wins the game for you.....the other guy still has to play the nine.

Often when you get the 7 the eight is often included...pretty generous spot with 3 money balls for you and one for him....

It can be a called seven/called 8/wild for each ect...not on the snap....thats in the negotiations.

If playing a better player in 9 ball, its how the odds are evened.

He was just getting even for all the times you didn't pay him!!!

If you guys play, for example, the 6 ghost. Do you only rack the 1st 5 balls? Or do you rack the whole 9 balls, and just run up to 5?

Getting the 7 from the ghost isn't much of a spot. The last three balls on the table are the easiest ones. What I do is rack 9 ball and take the lowest 2 balls off the table or 1 ball if you want to play the 8 ball ghost. I can usually beat the 8 but can only beat the 9 on my best days.

Ok so for arguments sake, lets say you can beat the ghost in a race to 10 or you usually get 6 to 9 games in that race where does that put you in the A,B,C rankings?

Also you only beat that race to ten 1 out of 20 attempts

Thats how I practice most of the time is by playing the ghost. I share the my finished basement with a 1, 9 and 10 year olds. I'm usually getting sharked by my kids when I playing him. I can beat him bout 50% of the time race to 5, but when its a race to 9 I have only done it once. I usually only win 6-8 games when racing to 9.
