PLEASE EXPLAIN POCKET ANGLES FOR SMALLER POCKETS

i had a recent discussion with a friend about this but neither of us are experts
so
for the experts
how does a pocket dimensions ie facing angle /shelf depth/whatever else i should be asking
change when the distance from rubber/pocket point (tittie) goes from 4 1/2 inch to 3 1/4 inch

Your question is somewhat confusing to me.

Assuming that you are just tightening the pocket size, the angles wouldn't change at all.

However, the shelf depth would be greatly reduced, if tightening from 4 1/2" to 3 1/4".

I'm thinking he is asking if the facing angle should change when tightening the pockets. If that is what he is asking I believe the angle should be tightened . For example 141 degrees to 138 degrees. Don't hold me to those numbers as they are just examples.

Now the angle won't change at all unless you change it if you are just tightening the pockets but I believe you are correct about the shelf depth getting shallower.

tighter the mouth the bigger the throat. at least that's what she said. the bigger the #(141 vs. 138deg) the tighter the throat is. you have to balance the pocket opening with the throat size to be playable.
