Any help on how to break 9-ball on a slow valley bar box. its probably the rails that are slow not getting any action. thanks

If you can't make the wing ball in the corner or the one in the side with a controlled square hit, then you can try the ol' Hulk Smash technique.

I use a straight line from the 1 to one of the back two balls behind the wings. Usually the one on the right. I hit the CB pretty much dead center which keeps it at center table. If you're really smacking them and not getting anything to drop, lighten up a little on your stroke. Sometimes hulk breaks are counter-productive, especially if the rails are a bit dead.

It's a slow valley box... I seriously doubt his opponent is giving him racks good enough to snap the wing or the 1.

Just crush it.

I thought Blackjack had a video up somewhere about power breaking. There are two ways I do that.. choke up a bit and get just slightly uncomfortably close to the CB("Hey there, CB, how you doin?") for Hulk Smash! break as mentioned above or use a long, smooth stroke while gripping further back. The most assured way to get a better spread on a slower table with questionable racks is probably the 2nd-ball break. If the rails are dead, though, nothing is really going to bounce back and you may as well find another place to play.

Hit it hard.

And check to make sure it's semi tight at least, most bar tables I've seen between the beat up old balls, cheap and old racks and worn cloth and slate are just about impossible to rack properly.

If it's not tight it won't open up even if you hit hard and you have a pretty good chance of launching the cueball off the table if the first three balls are loose.
