Pocket/shim work price?

What a fair price to have a mechanic come out and shim your pockets? What have you paid to have this performed?

I am familiar with what's involved, but want to see what everyone thinks is the going rate for the work.

I would assume your having the table recovered. It should cost nothing to "shim" the pocket...(you may have to pay $10.00 for an extra set of shims.

I am no table mechanic, but I doubt you can shim a rail without putting on new cloth....(if you want it to look good)

I am not recovering. My understanding is that one can remove the staples, add shims, then re-staple. I could be wrong, correct me if I am. My Simonis is in fairly good shape so I think this process could be used.

I am not really sure.....I suppose it could be done...I would think it would be a tedious job to re-stretch the rail cloth and get it correct.

If it can be done...I would guestimate a $125 - $150 charge for the work plus material cost..
 
You may be able to re-use the cloth if theres enuff extra to work with. I think most mechanics would choose to recover them again after the shims are installed. Thats a 4-5 hr job that may take 2 days to finish because of the cure time for whatever adheiseve you use.

It would be more cost efficient to have them done at your next re cloth but if you had the money I'd make the time. Expect to pay 150-200$ for that job from your local table mechanic.

It's not free to install pocket shims.It easily takes over an hr to prep the rails,apply your adhieseve,wait for it to cure and then trim to match the cushions. The best time to have these types of things done are to a brand new table or when you re cover/re cushion.
