I know this has been answered before, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere, so I apologize for asking it again. Why don't they make all UPA events have tables with 4 1/2 inch pockets, instead of the buckets they have now? Is it because of the player's egos? Or because the matches might be too long for TV as the players won't break and run so many racks?

AceHigh, I'm just guessing here, but since the 5"plus pockets are usually only on the tables used in the TV rounds, I'd say it's because the producers figure that the viewing public will enjoy run out 9-Ball much more than they would missed shots and safety play. Most of the pool you see on TV is independantly filmed and produced, and they must sell it to the networks. They also might want to see "runout" pool and using the large pockets in the TV rounds would make the match more marketable. I might be wrong, but I figure if it was to stroke egos, then they'd have the same tables in all the rounds.
