Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as a pool table w/o pockets? If so, how is it used? Aside from bumper pool tables of course. Thanks.

They are called Carom Tables. You don't see many in USA anymore.....I think they play alot overseas still. Look up Carom Tables in your search engine and you can read all ya want about the tables and the game. It's pretty hard to explain that game in a post......lol.

My father use to play caroms when he was younger, we play once in a while in a hall called New Wave in miami, Florida...Its the only place I know that has carom tables.

The difference between carom tables and pool tables is that they have no pockets, and they have heated cushions(so they can stay soft).

Basically, there are 3 balls of different colors(red, yellow, white).
You get one ball(red) and your opponent gets the yellow one.

Break: You break from the head spot with your ball(the other 2 balls are placed at the foot spot across from each other.

Object of the game is to hit caroms with your ball(your ball must hit both balls in one stroke), each carom is a point you continue until you miss a carom, then its your opponents turn. Each carom is worth one point, the game ends when you reach a certain amount of caroms(I usually play race to 50).

I've played 3 cushion with the Koreans a couple of times. 3 balls are used, white (your CB), yellow (opponents CB) and red. White and yellow are spotted on the spot parrellel to the foot rail, the red ball spotted on the other spot. You shoot your CB (white) at the red ball, go 3 cushions and hit the yellow, one point! Shoot 3 cushions then contact both the yellow and the red and receive 2 points! It's not an easy game! You're thinking, "sounds pretty easy", IT'S NOT!!
Good Luck!!

yeah this game is tough..you gotta know you'r eangles and stuff....i really wanna see Efren Reyes play this game.

Actually Road Runner, the 3Cushion tables here are really nice and solid. I can only speak about the rules I've been taught here. I'm sure you've played more than I have and know more about it.
Thanks,

Efren played this game during the last Asian games...and he was making some really spectacular shots.

It was obvious, though, that he didnt have any practice time devoted for this, so he still got beat soundly. Forgot which country won.

9 ball Road Pro is right about the Koreans using 4 balls. I've played in Korean pool halls here in Sacramento and they play the 4 ball game.

There are two games most other play on billiard tables, carombola and carom. Carombola is 3 cushion and carom or straight rail is caroming your cb from one ball to the next no whether rails are involved or not. A good carom player can run 100 points without too much problem. A three cushion player that averages 3 points an inning is a world beater.

The Koreans here call it 3-Cushion and use a yellow (off white), white and red ball. The white is my CB and the yellow is my opponents CB. Contact a ball, then 3 rails and the other ball...1 pt. Contact 3 rails, then both the red and yellow ball...2 pts. This is how they play it, if it's wrong, so be it... I rarely play with them anyway. I don't have time to play there that often.
