Kevin Trudeau in his speech(to the players) mentions that poker gathered in 30 million dollars in a year in extra revenue, of which I'm not at all surprised.Poker is an immensley populiar game right now, of astronomical proportions
For every 10 players he pays the so called guaranteed $100 thousand, that comes to a million dollars. Paying 100 players 100 thousand, comes to 10 million dollars. Given the fact that pool is nowhere near as populiar as poker, how does he expect to make 10 million dollars in extra revenue from selling DVD's, x box games, instructional videos, shirts, caps and other IPT stuff etc etc.I just don't see pool generating that much extra added income.
Certainly the sport of pool isn't 1/3 as populiar ($$$ wise) as poker.I would suggest not even 1/10 th as populiar, or even a 1/20th.Hell I've even seen at least 10 of our local pool players quit pool, to go and play F@#%$@ ing poker.
Kevin can(and will) no doubt save face and pay the players the 10 million out of his bank account, however, how long he'll do that before the novelty of losing money wears off remains to be seen.
Sorry if I'm sounding like a pessimist here, because I really want to see the IPT survive and our pool players make a decent living. Not too many people other than the players want to see this thing succeed more than I do.
I just think that comparing poker revenues to pool,as a way to generate extra cash, was a terrible, terrible comparison to hype the players with.
Then again I could be totally wrong here. After all Kevin obviously knows what it takes to make money and my budget doesn't make me comfortable enough to flip him $50 for an eight ball DVD match .So who am I to say and what the F#@&%^K do I know.I sincerley hope he proves me wrong.
